Happy New Year!
I get newsletters from Pastor Richard O'Ffill and this one is so good that I just wanted everyone to see it. It really makes you think. Here it is:
Dear Friend,Shall we make New Year's resolutions? The answer is Yes. The problem is whenever we mention we are going to make a New Year’s resolution people will either smile or laugh out loud. The reason being everybody knows that New Year’s resolutions don’t last. I read somewhere that someone did a study on the subject and discovered that a typical resolution lasts about five days! There’s a reason and I’m going to share it with you. It’s this. We can never put something new into our lives unless we take something out to make room for it. There are only twenty-four hours in a day.Everything we do takes time. Today our life is full of whatever we are going to do. This means that if we are going to do something different we are going to have to allot time for it. Inasmuch as our time is already committed to whatever we usually do, the new thing we want to do is going to have to take the place of something else. This means that we do, in the time frame we have, the things to which we have given the greatest priority. The bottom line then is that the New Year’s resolution must first of all be a high priority item and secondly it will have to replace something of lesser priority. So now you know how to make your resolution last. But a word of caution, old habits die hard. It takes about thirty days for a new habit to settle in. This means that for a month, whatever you used to do will try to get back into its old priority position. Whether this happens or not will be up to you!Your Brother in Christ,Richard W. O'Ffill
